It's about my father. Gone now but still felt. We didn't see eye to eye on much. We were both to blame. Sad to be angry. But we were. Each verse is a memory of him. Starting with teen years going right back to six months old.

You stare at me over the table
You're a blue eyed steel eyed man
I gotta get out of this house right now
To find out who I am

I'm stuck outside of an alehouse
With a little blue bag in my hand
I stare at you in at the window
Won't you please come an take my hand

You could have been a cocktail waitress
You could have been in Steeleye Span
You could have been a mathematician
You could have been a sailor man

I'm sitting upon your shoulders
On the field of royal fun
We're riding on the highway dragon
Burning wheels in the melting sun

There's a hundred bonfires burning
There's a thousand planes over my head
I can see the blue moon a-rising
Please tell me that the monster's dead

You could have been my old man
